Netuk House is a heritage boutique hotel experience seeped in history. The hotel was built in the late 1950s in an architecturally enchanting house that once belonged to Gellong Netuk Lama, executive counsellor to the then Chogyal or Monarch. The property is located on Tibet Road, the primary route for travellers and traders going to Tibet. In the past, this was the road used by silk traders and part of the historic Silk Route. The property started out as a transit point offering hospitality to these travellers.

Today, Netuk House is a symbol of luxury stay and traditional hospitality. The property is close to the city’s commercial hub but at the same time not at the heart of the city’s hustle bustle.

Following the tenets of traditional architecture, the hotel has the Dzom-sa front room in the Main Block. Dzom-sa means to congregate, and the room traditionally holds significance in Sikkimese society because this is where important decisions are taken. The create a feel of nostalgia, the room has old-world pictures. The room has sofas that are stitched with designer fabrics, choktsis or centre tables that are over 60 years old, a traditional Bukhari, or stove oven, in one corner for heating that has been imported from Lhasa, Tibet.

The hotel’s Cowgher Lounge promotes the preservation of local art and culture, and is built in a traditional manner by local artisans. The concept of Rinchen Surgay — eight pillars or eight corners — an auspicious architectural style of the Sikkimese Bhutia community is visible in the lounge, on eight wooden pillars with intricate carvings. The lounge has a reading corner and a reclining area, and serves local Temi tea and or Chaang, or local millet beer. The child-friendly property has an array of books and board games to choose from.

The property has several open spaces offering a pristine view of Mount Kanchenjunga. The open terrace garden is a great place to sit back and enjoy the panoramic view while having one’s meals. The hotel is entirely a free WiFi zone and provides high-speed internet connectivity. If you are looking for private sightseeing tours, the in-house travel desk helps curate trips to suit your time schedules and preferences. For guests arriving by road, the hotel provides free parking space.
