Café Shillong Bed and Breakfast
Café Shillong BnB is an old refurbished bungalow restored to provide a total of seven rooms to prospective guests. The entire building has been done up in tasteful woodwork and exudes an endearing old world charm. Despite this, guests are made to feel warm and comfortable with modern room heaters and allowed to connect to the rest of the world with the hotel Wi-Fi. These amenities are in addition to the many others that are available for the guests.
The staff at the front desk is keen on helping out with directions, city maps as well as transport like taxis, which can be arranged easily, on request. The hotel is located at an easy distance from some interesting tourist attractions like Mawsynram, Spread Eagle Falls and the Don Bosco Museum.
Room Tip
Request rooms in the old bungalow instead of the new building. They are more spacious and offer more privacy. The rooms on the porch face small tea gardens which are a treat to the eyes.
Dining
Breakfast is included in the room rent but there is no provision for dining in the hotel. They order in from Café Shillong so you would need to give them at least an hour’s notice. The food is quite delicious and definitely worth the wait.

The Heritage
Accommodation in the border states of North-East India is expensive as compared to the rest of the country. The Heritage is a lovely budget hotel and is setup in one of the most picturesque areas of Kohima.
Perched atop a hill, this lovely old colonial building is a great place to do a bit of unwinding. The staff are warm and welcoming and really know how to make their guests feel at home. They have also done a great job of ensuring the security. So much so that it’s quite ok to forget a jacket or a little bag outside and rush back to find it still sitting there innocently.
But don’t forget your jacket out for too long as the evenings can get quite chilly, especially in November and December and the bungalow is super airy! Water pressure can also be a bit of an anticlimax but when you look out the window and see the wonderful vistas, it all seems worth it. Please ensure you book well in advance as they have only three rooms albeit done up in an endearing fashion.
Dining
Dinner is quite good but the breakfast, not so much. Although, eating breakfast while getting warmed up by the early morning sun is certainly a winner!

Although close to its roots in tradition and nature, this resort is far from being a simple lodging. In fact, the Niathu Resort is seemingly as luxurious as it can get in far-off Nagaland.
